Young Fellows Association

Chair: Lance Stuke, MD, FACS

The Young Fellows Association is an organization within the College formed for members 45 years and younger. The Louisiana YFA was formed to provide a forum for Young Surgeons to get involved in chapter activities and cultivate the future chapter leaders.

Each year the LA-YFA sponsors Mock Orals at the LA-ACS Annual Meeting. The goal of the program is to foster collaboration among the residencies in preparing senior-level residents for the American Board of Surgery Certifying Exam. Volunteer faculty from each surgical residency program come together to administer the mock oral boards. The examinations are conducted in hotel rooms donated by members attending the annual meeting. The day ends with food and cocktails. This program has helped break barriers between the programs and foster a spirit of camaraderie among all involved.

The chapter has several committees that we urge YFA to join and get involved. Our committees are Advocacy, Commission on Cancer, Quality, Diversity, Program Committee, Women in Surgery, and Social Media. We’ve created a Chapter Liaison position to enhance communication with each surgical residency program in Louisiana. We want to make sure all members know about our events, programs, and events.
